With
no great idea, I capitalized on Whitney twittering from the SXSW
convention. Once again I didn’t have to draw much new, except the plane
in the first panel. But this time I had to draw Whitney, which I’d
avoided up until now. I imagined initially that the strip would go on
showing all of the Pop Candy readers, but not show Whitney. Or maybe
show her feet only, or as a shadow, sort of like the adults in
“Peanuts”. But in the end, I decided there’d be too many jokes I
couldn’t do without drawing Whitney, and I wasn’t convinced that
leaving her out added that much either. Unfortunately, this version of
her really doesn’t look much like her.
I debuted the new version of
Ol Griz here, since he shaved his beard. I’m much happier with this
version. Of the new characters here, I like the iPod guys, and I owe a
lot to Lsims, who helped with ideas for her cartoon, when I was stuck.
She was a big fan of the Ring, which made for interesting visuals.
This
strip contains my biggest, and really only regret of the entre series:
the iPod joke list for Tory. What happened was, I had the ideas of what
I was going to draw for Tory and Spike, but when it came time to draw
them, I didn’t have an idea of what to put on the ipod screens. I
couldn’t remember what either one of their tastes in music were (I have
a notoriously horrible memory), and it was the night before the strip
was due. So I came up with a couple of cheap music jokes (old bands
still recording, and musicians who only care about money.) The jokes
were supposed to be comments on the musicians only, nothing to do with
Tory or Spike. Unfortunately, Tory thought I was making a joke about
his taste in music. Sorry, Tory, I didn’t mean that at all.
